The Obsidian Chamber by Preston and Child is the 16th book in the Pendergast series. Before I begin the review, I'd like to mention that this is the first book in this series that I've read and although that is almost never a good idea, I wasn't able to resist accepting this title when it 4/5.

[THE OBSIDIAN CHAMBER is] an excellent story by these two unbelievably talented authors. A page-turner, a deluxe suspense, a perfect mystery--Preston & Child remain the best of the best and never let their huge fan base down!"― /5(K). THE OBSIDIAN CHAMBER by While much of the book is clumsy, contrived, and silly, it is while reading passages of the diary that one may actually find oneself laughing out loud.

Amateurish, with a twist savvy readers will see coming from a mile away. THE OBSIDIAN CHAMBER defies everything loyal readers of Preston & Child’s Pendergast series have come to expect. It bears hardly any science fiction or supernatural elements, is told in a disjointed fashion with several different narratives and narrators coming in and out, and at times seems like a strict cat-and-mouse mystery story.

For the publication of THE OBSIDIAN CHAMBER, we have personally autographed a limited number of first-edition, hardcover books, available from the Poisoned Pen.

Do you think The Obsidian Chamber needs a follow-up book. Why or why not. Well, yes, it needs a follow-up, because I want the story of Pendergast to continue. I hope, though, the writers go back to their usual standards and not mail the next one in.

One more effort like this and I'll. The thrillers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child "stand head and shoulders above their rivals" (Publishers Weekly).Preston and Child's Relic and The Cabinet of Curiosities were chosen by readers in a National Public Radio poll as being among the one hundred greatest thrillers ever written, and Relic was made into a number-one box office hit movie.

They are coauthors of the famed Brand: Grand Central Publishing. The Obsidian Chamber starts with a bang before leveling off for a straightforward middle of the book.

However, the real fireworks go off towards the end, where Preston and Child give fans a truly satisfying conclusion, unlike the cliffhanger ending in last year’s novel, Crimson Shore. Book Details. Author: Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.

Book Review: “The Obsidian Chamber” 07 Oct I’ve been reading Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child’s “Pendergast” series of macabre-but-not-quite-supernatural thrillers for the better part of a decade – and every year, I wait eagerly for the latest installment. The Obsidian Chamber, continues where Crimson Shore ended in its story line, picking up the thread a few months after the events in Exmouth, Massachusetts.

It makes it very difficult to review this book without spoiling some of the surprises. I definitely think this book cannot be read as a standalone.4/5(18). His eight-year stint at the Museum resulted in the non-fiction book, Dinosaurs in the Attic, edited by a rising young star at St.

Martin's Press, a polymath by the name of Lincoln Child. During this period, Preston gave Child a midnight tour of the museum, and in the darkened Hall of Late Dinosaurs, under a looming T. Rex, Child turned to. The Obsidian Chamber - Ebook written by Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child.

Crimson Shore ended with (spoilers) the indomitable Special Agent Aloysius X.L. Pendergast missing and presumed dead. Constance had returned to the mansion on Riverside Drive and retreated to the labyrinthine sub-basement to work through her grief in piece and solitude.
